Rev. Carolyn Talmadge

When I was in High School I thought that perhaps I would be a teacher, or a lawyer, or even an accountant (this is the most mysterious of my potential career choices because I failed Algebra !! twice).  I had no idea that I would be a Pastor, and I certainly had no idea that I would be a Pastor on a college campus.  The only thing that I knew for certain was that I was going to go to UC Santa Cruz.  I achieved that goal and then at twenty-two found myself at a cross roads which led me into high tech.  I worked at Macromedia, which is now Adobe, within the Creative Services department.  I managed the work flow of six graphic designers.  I had a good job, lived in a great city, and still I found myself wanting something different. I used to watch people at work who were very stressed out and think to myself, “it is just a product launch, this is not a life and death situation.”  At about the same time I joined a local church. As time passed I found that I was more interested in my spiritual community than I was in the high tech world. After several years I decided to follow my heart, and the feeling that I had that God had plans for me. When I decided to become a pastor my family was stunned. I never was very religious and prior to joining the church in San Francisco when I was 24, I had not been to church since I was 15...  And yet today, 10 years later I am a pastor.

In addition to working for God, I love classic Rock, Star Trek, my Golden-Doodle Mabel (she is a big fluffy half Golden Retriever/half Poodle), and hiking and cooking.  I believe that God has a great adventure set aside for each of us, and that we will find ourselves in unexpected places doing unexpected things if we listen to that small soft voice of God that whispers to us other possibilities.
